This rare and stunning Sterling silver shoe horn is from the American Beauty series of dresser items, patented December 10, 1901. Sterling silver handle and steel horn. There sterling silver handle is heavy and there is quite a lot of sterling silver to the handle alone. The horn is steel with aged patina. High repoussé floral pattern of a woman in profile with long flowing hair. It features a classic’Gibson Girl’ beauty with finely chiseled features and flowing curving hair all the way down the length of the handle and flowers. Design is on both sides of the handle and is quite detailed with very high relief repoussé work. Signed Sterling with the Kerr hallmark (a hatchet) and the number 144 then followed by the number 2. Entire shoe horn measures 8 ½ inches length left to right, The handle measures 4″ length and 1″ inch wide. Shoe horn portion measures 4 ½ length. An outstanding rare item – Kerr’s American Beauty items don’t surface very often – truly an icon of Art Nouveau design and skilled craftsmanship.
